Hey UK Tooters, how easy/hard is it to get an adult referral and ADHD diagnoses on the NHS? Asking for a Tess :P

@FrazzledBrynn i was referred to a service last year for asd that also provided adhd diagnoses and it was fairly straightforward! i think it will depend on what services are available in your area, if you google for "adult adhd services nhs [local area]" and ask your gp to refer you to the relevant service, they shouldn't argue

@pisscotheque thank you! here's hoping it's just as straight forward for us xD

@FrazzledBrynn with NHS Scotland I went to my GP, briefly explained my symptoms (and brought a stack of evidence), she referred me and about 6 weeks later I had my first appointment with the psychiatrist. There were three appointments with the psychiatrist and when I walked through the door at the third one she gave me my diagnosis. It took around 4 months from GP appointment to diagnosis, but I have no idea about anywhere else in the UK

@FrazzledBrynn a lot of people told me beforehand that it’s really difficult to get an adult diagnosis but maybe I’m too textbook for them to deny it, lol

@dreadpirateyarr @FrazzledBrynn My experience in London was similar, but that was in 2007. I think it's a bit more comprehensive now? People I know who have been diagnosed recently have been referred to peer support groups etc after diagnosis, which wasn't something I was offered.

@artsyhonker @FrazzledBrynn I was given contact information for government organisations etc who can support me with things like employment as well

@dreadpirateyarr @FrazzledBrynn I got none of that! But it was over 10 years ago, things may have changed.

@artsyhonker @dreadpirateyarr thank you both! Hopefully we'll get some headway in the new year

@FrazzledBrynn @artsyhonker good luck! I can answer any more questions about the process if you need me to
