The saying 'blood is thicker than water'?
It's actually 'the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb'.

Never feel you are obliged to stay linked to harmful people just because you're related.

And as pointed out by @SanfordianPhil, "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" was actually meant to denote an impossible task, the opposite of how it's used today.

@Absolutely_Blakely that saying had pissed me off for years, was so nice hearing the full version being the total opposite

@sophia @Absolutely_Blakely finding out this one and that "pull myself up by my bootstraps" was originally satirical were both good days

@maya @sophia *taps their bio*

how about we make a new proverb:

The blood of the coven is thicker than the water of the womb.

@sophia @SanfordianPhil and then someone thought it was a great term for starting a computer, and then

@sophia my brother is a violent misogynistic alcoholic and I am ready to write him off for good. I needed to hear that quote from ya. Nobody else in my life would be welcome into my home with those qualities. Why make the exception?
